Debt Review Is Not Blacklisting
It is important not to confuse debt review with blacklisting. Debt review flags on the credit records of a consumer are not seen as the consumer being blacklisted. If a person is flagged for debt counselling it simply means that for the period under the debt review that the person may not make new debt. Once the debt is cleared a clearance certificate is issued. The consumer can then resume normal credit spending. Blacklisting on the other hand is an old term used to indicate that a person may not receive credit due to poor payment of previous and current debts. The term that you will find on a credit report today is “adverse credit”. One can check for such status by requesting an ITC check. If you are blacklisted, thus have an adverse credit record on your name, you will not be able to get credit, but applying for debt review will help you clear the debts and your name in the long run.
