PAYE and your Payroll Processes
Pay as You Earn (PAYE) is a form of withholding taxation in South Africa which an employee must deduct from each income earner on a monthly basis. The PAYE is calculated according to each income earner’s remuneration and must be calculated individually for each employee. At the end of each tax season the employer must submit PAYE reconciliation to the receiver of revenue. Your monthly payroll processes and software must take care of the monthly payments to the South African Revenue Service as well as the bi-annual submission of the reconciliation statement. Make sure that you are up to date with all your PAYE tax requirements at the end of each tax season and that you submit all the necessary information on time.
To find out more about your payroll processes, PAYE deductions as well as PAYE reconciliation, please contact us.

Your Payroll Software and UIF Deductions
It is the law in South Africa that each employer must pay over an amount of an employee’s salary to the Unemployment Insurance Fund every month. The UIF is calculated according to an employee’s salary and then split into two parts. One part the employer is responsible for paying and the other portion must be deducted from the employee’s salary. These calculations can be difficult and most companies rely on a payroll software programme to arrive at the right figure at the end of each month. Should an employee be retrenched or made redundant, the UIF will then pay them a portion of their monthly salary whilst they are unemployed and looking for new employment. An employee who has not contributed to the fund while employed will not receive benefits upon losing his or her employment.
To find out more about payroll software and UIF Deductions, please contact us.
